Apartments & Mix-Use, Stevenage, UK
As one of the new towns built after the war to ease housing pressure on London, this site is ideal for regeneration. The outline scheme comprises of 526 mixed apartments and 18,00sqft of retail on the ground floor. The scheme is a joint venture with the local council as they own a third of the development land.
The initial masterplan looked at various elements of the town centre, especially the links to the market square and the pedestrian routes. We worked alongside the planners and regeneration team through various concepts and ideas. The final solution was to create frontages on three sides of the site to strengthen the frontage along the three streets. The private courtyard space faces south which relates to the neighbourhood retirement homes.
